第一. 如果是为了全家能够移民美国，那家长首先应该考虑到的是自己今后来美国，在美国的生活水平上一定会比你们现在在国内的生活水准低: 来美后，没有人会羡慕你们在国内的高职务，与高收入。因为第一代的新移民，绝大多数都是为了能在美国求生存，而不是来享受美国的好山好水的。就是在餐厅吃饭，中国来的老大粗也是对你一视同仁。而孩子的未了也未必像你们想象的那么成功。但有一点是肯定的，如果孩子能在美国拿到学位，找到工作。可以不用父母的一分钱，绝对能在美国靠他们自己的能力买车子买房子。这于在中国的大城市，孩子只靠自己的收入而不靠父母的帮助，在短时间内买房子是基本不可能的。还有一点要注意的那就是对孩子的期望也不能太高，否则是会让某些家长失望的。因为绝大多数第一代的外国留学生，要想在美国成为一个中上以上层的管理人员，并不容易。主要还是因为文化背景的不同。现在在美国能混上美国上层建筑的华裔，基本都还是出身在美国，或者是从小(12岁前)就已来美国的。到目前为止，从中国大陆来美的留学生，赚钱最好的就是以前就在国内做医生，现在美国也做医生的华裔;在华尔街公司内做电脑金融的;或者就是在西部硅谷大公司工作的高科技技术人员。但做上层大官的几乎没有。能做到项目经理, 部门经理，DIRECTOR，华尔街无权的VP(工资级别)，大学终身教授就已经是相当好的了。比起国内的老板，总经理，总工程师，医院院长，大学校长，局长等等那还是差得太多了。所以今后想移民的话，孩子越小出国越好。而作为家长一定要有这样的这个思想准备: 越是在中国国内混得好的，越是不容易适应国外的生活。
第二 如果是为了孩子出国镀金，那最经济的做法就是让孩子在国内读完本科(相信国内的本科外文教学还不错吧?)。因为绝大多数的中国高中毕业留学生能进美国本科名校的几乎是寥寥无几。而美国大学本科的普及教育也并不比中国的正规大学教育质量好多少，甚至更差。美国绝大多数的高中毕业生都是读美国的地方公立大学。而这些普通的美国地方公立大学也只要求有高中文凭就能入读，而并没有像中国国内所认为的那样要通过美国的高考SAT以及丰富的课外活动。事实是SAT根本就不是美国的高考，而是美国的名校用于衡量美国高中的教学标准以及申请名校孩子的最低学业要求。8百多所美国大学根本就不需要SAT的考试成绩就能入学。即使有些公立大学也有这要求，但也只是为了申请奖学金或象征性每门450(满分800)以上就行。国内所理解的美国升学要求其实只是针对美国的名校而言: "SAT考满分，高中成绩第一，二名也不一定能进得去。主要还得看孩子优秀的课外活动"。但美国名校的研究生院就完全不一样了，主要看的就是大学的本科成绩。成绩越高，能进的机会越大，从本科名校毕业的，进名校研究生院的机率也就越大。
现在从中国大陆来美读本科名校的其实还不多。就是进了很多还是转去了其它大学。这主要应该是有以下几个因素造成的:
A. 语言问题。美国的本科教育与国内不大一样，专业分的没那么细。特别是理工科，专业课最多也只占你本科必修课的1/3多一些。而且读完本科起码需要120个学分以上才能毕业。要读很多的文科课程。所以就算孩子的理工学业非常好，但英文不好的话。那本科的总成绩就会被拖下来。我现在所知道的几位由国内来美读本科名校并已毕业的，基本都是来自于中国几个大城市的外国语学院中的附属中学。
B. 本科的学费问题。就是孩子能进美国名校，其平均学费生活开支每年近6万美金也不是每个中国家长都能负担得起的。虽然国际学生读名校能申请到一些奖学金，但比例很校
所以对于希望让孩子来美国镀金的家长，最好就是让孩子在中国读完本科，然后再来美国读研究院。因为:
A. 美国的普通大学教育质量比中国一般的大学教育水平并没有很大的优越性。而且多数美国大学的教授与国内大学老师相比就如同一个是兼职教授，一个是全时教授。
B. 进美国名校的研究生院相对于进美国本科的名校要容易得多! 因为看得就是大学本科与入读研究生院的考试成绩: 如GRE， MCAT，LSAT 等的考试。考分高的就进好的研究生院。特别是像进研究生院用的GRE试题，在基础英文与数学的考试方面，水平其实与这里高中生考的SAT是一样的。
C. 美国的硕士学位只要36左右的学分就能毕业。如果孩子能在一年内读完，6万美金的学费与本科24万的价值之比肯定是划算的了。如果孩子能申请到读理工博士学位的，基本还都能拿到奖学金与生活费。所以来美国读研究生绝对比读本科在经济上要划算。而且美国大专院校的研究水平才真正的体现了美国的大学水平。而且美国普通大学的研究生院也不错。因为能进的都是要成绩好的。
第三 为了逃避国内高考的激烈竞争而来美国读本科的就最具不确定性。如果在国内考不上国内本科的，相信在美国也基本上是进不了名校的。能在美国的大学毕业也就算是很好的了。因为美国普通大学的基础教育其难度比中国国内的正规普通高校容易些(英语除外)。所以如果孩子要求上进，能学
